Forgot I had this old image of the old Penfield Tavern (now Canandaigua Bank)!
What use to be the hotel rooms became 2 large apartments upstairs.
Back in the 70's, there was the car dealership next door on the corner in a heavy stone (or cement block?) building (Schaufflebergers?) and a car lot on 441 near the white church. I don't remember what was there before the Friendly's store got built. Does anyone else remember?
Very cool article from a 2018 D&C newspaper "Whatever happened to the Penfield Tavern?"

Was the Village Grill on the opposite corner? And is it still there or also demolished?
Yes, the Village Grill was on the opposite corner to the east. The building is still standing, though vacant. I've heard that it would take an awful lot of restoration inside to make it usable. It's been up for sale a few times.
I was able to google this much info about it, but that's as far as I got.
Dances were often held in Eldridge or Bancroft Hall, the name depending on the current owner. Stores were on the first floor, the dance floor was on the second. (From Penfield Historical group)
The building was owned in 1960, by Andrew Gleason. He purchased it from Charles Masick in 1958. Johnny Naber was
owner in 1950.
Andy Gleason also was part owner of the Humphrey House, he was deeply involved in Fire Department station in Brighton at the intersection of 441 and East Ave. No clue who owns the Grill. Could probably figure it out by researching who's paying the property taxes on it..?
